Now I know most people in the club would prefer no taxes, but I would like to see what people think would be a good alternative (since most if not all candidates aren't proposing no taxes). There are a few candidates on the Republican side that talk about flat taxes, and Rubio (I believe) talks about simplifying it to two tax rates (like that hasn't been done before, right?). Let me know if you need a clarification on the difference between the two!

Would this apply to just income tax, or all taxes such as Estate etc?

Well I would assume income tax, since none have actually mentioned the Estate tax.

There's a lot I don't know about taxation, but I feel like a federal consumption tax similar to what Gary Johnson advocates sounds like a step in the right direction. (My inner anarchist is screaming ABOLISH THE IRS AND NO TAXES, haha)

Ashley, I believe a consumption tax is closer to what the Fair Tax is about. According to fairtax.org, the Fair Tax would put in place a National Sales tax. This, as with consumption tax, would tax on what you spend and not what you earn. I am fine with this and it leaves more money in the hands of the person which in turn would increase their chances of spending that money in the economy. Here is the website if you are interested in learning more: fairtax.org/about/how-fairtax-works

Since all taxation is theft, and I have to pick a tax, I would pick Property Taxes since it seems the one that hurts the economy the least.

It may be true that property tax hurts the economy the least, but I just hate the idea that you should be taxed for something you already The most "legitimate" tax I think a government can claim is something like sales tax, where the government can say they helped play a role in completing the transaction through roads, regulation, etc. and that they deserve a portion of the transaction.

Sebastian, how is the sales tax legitimate if I did not ask for the roads to be built? Btw I agree that morally speaking property taxes are abhorrent.
