I had the pleasure of listening to Rand battle the Patriot act's re authorization on the Senate floor a few weeks ago. Of course, McConnell played up the whole "ISIS is going to kill us all without spying on all your data" argument, but the gallery was full of people wearing Stand With Rand shirts. It was awesome to see the Patriot Act expire, but of course the Freedom Act passed 2 days later, which unfortunately reignites section 215 that had just been struck down. Don't you love how some of the most seditious bills are named "Patriot" and "Freedom"?
Anyway, the NSA was NOT happy about the parts of USA Freedom that restricted them, and immediately turned to the secret FISA court to basically ask for a chance to ignore the bill's demands.
Basically, the Freedom Act is the first proof that the NSA will find any way to illegally continue its warrantless surveillance of everyone.
What's your take on the Freedom Act?
